How To Use Listing Alerts for Amazon
Step 1: Add a Listing
The first time you open the app, you’ll be invited to add a listing. To do this, you’ll need the product page’s URL or Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN).
Enter one of these into the text field and click “Monitor.”
Note that you can continue to add new listings at any time. Just click the “Add listing” button at the top of your listings and type in the URL/ASIN.
If you need to add a large amount of listings, you can also use the “Bulk add” feature. Click the “Bulk add” button at the top of the listings (next to the “Add listing” button).
You can then copy and paste multiple URL/ASINs from an external document or spreadsheet into the text box. Once you’re done, click “Add listings.”
For each listing that you add, a new card will be created and added to your list.
Listing Cards
Each of these cards contains key status updates about the following component of your listing:
- Keywords
- The Buy Box
- Price
- Suppression (with a connected Amazon Seller account)
- Content
The information you receive is based on your monitoring configurations (which are covered in step 3).
You can see a more detailed breakdown of these updates by clicking “View details.”
The listing card also provides a link to the Amazon product page, as well as an option to remove the listing.
Note that listings containing a red exclamation mark have recently been changed. You will be notified of these changes by email if you have set up alerts (see step 4).
You can sort the list to ensure that these listings appear first by clicking “Sort by” and selecting “New alerts.”
You can also filter the list to only show listings that contain new alerts by selecting “With alerts” on the right hand side of the menu.
Step 2: Customize Your Monitoring
Because the updates that you receive from Listing Alerts are based on your inputs, it’s important to configure how each of your listings are monitored.
You can fine-tune your monitoring in the following ways.
Keywords
Keywords are a crucial aspect of Amazon selling. If your product appears high up in the search results for a particular keyword, the searcher is more likely to click on it and buy it. That’s why it’s important to be aware of any position changes.
In Listing Alerts, you can track the keywords you’ve chosen for each listing and the app will notify you when your ranking position moves. For example, if you are selling Nike trainers, your target keywords might be “nike jordan air” or “basketball shoes.” If some keywords drop from the top 100 results on the search results page, the app will alert you about that. It is worth noting that if some keywords are initially out of the top 100, alerts will not be sent.
To add your keywords, click “View details” on the listing card, followed by “Add keywords.” Alternatively, you can click “Set up” underneath the “Keywords” field.
Type in (or copy and paste) your chosen keywords and click “Add keywords.” The app will then start collecting data.
You can add or remove keywords for existing listings, too. In the listing card, click “View details” and then “Manage keywords.”
Type any new keywords that you want to add in the text box (one per line). To remove existing ones, click the trash icon next to the keyword.
In addition, Listing Alerts for Amazon will let you know if you are outside the top 100 Amazon search results for any of your target keywords. This is useful because if you are not ranking for certain terms or phrases, you may need to review your strategy.
Buy Box
The Buy Box is another crucial element in Amazon selling, as 90% of all sales on the platform go through it. Listing Alerts allows you to keep track of whether you hold the Buy Box for your listing or not.
To set up Buy Box monitoring, click “View details” in the listing card and enter your seller name or ID.
You can quickly see if your listing holds the Buy Box in the listing card. If this changes (you win or lose the Buy Box), the app will notify you.
To see which seller currently holds the Buy Box, click “View details” and go to the “Buy Box” section. If this changes to another seller, you will also see the date that Listing Alerts detected this change.
Price
Listing Alerts for Amazon allows you to track the price of the product on Amazon and receive notifications whenever it changes. This is useful to know, as you may be selling too high or too low.
To start tracking your listing’s price, click “View details” in the listing card and scroll down to the “Price” section. Then, click “Start tracking.”
The app will automatically default to the current Amazon price for that product. Alternatively, you can enter your own price to track.
If the price changes at any point, you will be notified. The listing card will also denote the change.
To see the new price, click “View details” and scroll down to “Price.”
Suppression
When a listing doesn’t meet Amazon’s standards and requirements, it gets suppressed. This means customers won’t be able to find your listings on the site and your revenue will likely take a significant hit. It’s important to know if this happens to one of your listings, as you will need to take action to fix it.
Note that, to track suppressed listings, your Amazon Seller account must be connected to the Listing Alerts for Amazon app. In order to connect it, click the “Connect Seller Central” button in the “Suppressed” section of the listing card.
Once connected, Listing Alerts will inform you of any changes. You will be able to see your suppression status in the listing card under “Suppressed.”
If a listing does get suppressed, click “View details” in the listing card and scroll down to the “Suppressed” section. Follow the link to your Amazon Seller Central account, where you will receive more information on how to fix the issue.
Content
Listing Alerts for Amazon allows you to track any changes in the product title, description, and image. This is important to stay on top of, as any changes in this content might affect a potential buyer’s purchasing decision.
The app automatically tracks these elements, so you don’t need to set anything up. If, however, the content changes at any point, you can opt to track the new iteration instead. To do this, click “View details” in the listing card and scroll down to “Content.” Then, click “Track current content.”
You can quickly see if anything has changed in the listing card under “Content.”
To view these changes in more detail, go to the “Content” section of “View details.” Here it’s also possible to view the full product description and quality assure the listing using the Listing Quality Check for Amazon app.
Step 3: Set Up Alerts
Listing Alerts notifies you of any changes and updates to your listing within the app. However, if you need to be informed of changes immediately, you can set up direct alerts via SMS and email.
To do this, go to “Settings” at the top of your listings.
Alerts are automatically sent to the email address you provided when you registered your Semrush account. You can also toggle SMS notifications on and off.
To receive instant alerts, make sure that the “Instant alerts for each listing” setting is active.
You can also opt to receive a daily summary of any issues detected across all your listings. To set this up, set “Daily digest” to active.
Note that when you set up SMS and email alerts, you will receive notifications of changes for all your listings.
